Culture Award Certificate

For the Cultuurprijs Weesp-Driemond 2023 I was asked to design and create the certificate. On November 23rd 2023 the prize was handed out to WeespFoto. What began as a simple certificate has grown into a lasting commemoration of this special award.

Initially intended as a certificate, this design is now officially a commemoration of winning the Cultural Prize 2023. The style is predominantly Art Nouveau — a choice that stems from my appreciation of the elegance and flowing movements so characteristic of this movement. That visual language feels especially fitting for art and culture: graceful, organic, and timeless.

Art manifests in many different forms, and culture evolves alongside it. To give that idea visual weight, I painted Japanese cranes into the design. These birds carry rich symbolism: they represent luck and protection — both of which I wholeheartedly wish upon the winner. They also evoke beauty and creativity, qualities inseparable from any cultural prize.

The result is a design where aesthetics and meaning come together: a tangible recognition for WeespFoto, and at the same time a tribute to the power of art and culture in Weesp-Driemond.
